Fed Up With Fad Diets? Meet Epigenetics!

One of the biggest breakthroughs in medicine has been that we can change how our genes express themselves by making changes to our environment…

Epigenetics is the study of how external environmental components, like what you eat, where you live, who you interact with, how you exercise – all act directly on your DNA and in turn influence gene expression.

Knowing your own individual genetic profile enables you to make tailored adjustments to your diet and lifestyle, thereby influencing your genes, your health and the way your body performs, in very precise ways.

Here are 3 new things you probably didn’t know about Epigenetics that you might find interesting.

These fun (ish) facts could help determine if you should a) find out more about your unique genetic profile or b) continue scrolling and forget this ever happened.

First new notion: Your genetic inheritance is not set in stone

True story: If you have a predisposition to something like high blood pressure, weight gain, or imbalanced cholesterol, there is actually a lot you can do to compensate for these inherited gene variations. It turns out we can switch on and switch off the activity of our genes without changing our actual DNA code… Meaning you’ll still have the same DNA you were born with, but , you won’t necessarily activate the genes that increase your susceptibility, because you made certain diet and lifestyle changes, based on your genetic blueprint. Again, not magic….merely Epigenetics.

Second mind-blower: Your diet and lifestyle can change the expression of your genes.

Get this: One way we can influence genes without changing their basic structure is through the foods we eat (hello Nutrigenomics!) Micronutrients (vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients) become like little messenger tags inside our body that attach to our genes and affect how they end up being expressed. Certain genes we want turned on (the ones that code for increased lifespan and reduced disease risk for example) while others (the genes that make us susceptible to deficiencies or diseases) we’d like switched off.

Third revelation: Testing your genetics doesn’t tell you how you’re gonna die, it tells you how you can live to thrive

Knowing what your genetic variants are and how they impact the way your body functions is empowering information to have. What is smarter than learning which changes you might be able to make for your body to function better and optimally?

Who wouldn’t want to improve their chances of living a  longer, happier life – one that is less influenced by chronic disease?  Gone are the days of casting a wide net, guessing, hoping and waiting for a change.

Want to start proactively managing your health, weight, sport’s performance, and longevity?

Imagine if something as simple as a cheek swab could tell you what to eat more (or less) of and what type of exercise was the best for your body based on your unique requirements?

Well, it can.  Discover useful information about yourself and how to best to reach your personal health goals – Learn more about a 3×4 Genetic Test today!  Your personalized health journey begins here.
